We are seeking an experienced Steel Buyer for the U.S. division of an established international steel organization.

The company operates within the international steel trading and distribution market, supplying steel products to customers throughout North America. This is a fast-paced, office-based commercial purchasing role with responsibility for sourcing, supplier relationships, purchasing negotiations, market analysis, and order execution.

The successful candidate will bring strong purchasing and sourcing experience and the ability to evaluate buying opportunities based on material pricing, specifications, availability, lead times, freight, inventory requirements, and overall landed cost. Previous steel buying, sourcing, or trading experience is strongly preferred; however, candidates with strong purchasing or sourcing experience from other industries will also be considered. The Steel Buyer will work closely with suppliers as well as internal sales, logistics, operations, and finance teams.

Fluency in Portuguese or Spanish is required.

What You’ll Do:

• Source steel products from qualified domestic and international suppliers based on customer, inventory, and business requirements.
• Develop and maintain productive relationships with mills, processors, service centers, distributors, traders, and other supply partners.
• Request and evaluate supplier quotations based on material price, specifications, quality, availability, lead time, freight, payment terms, and overall landed cost.
• Negotiate purchase prices, quantities, delivery schedules, payment terms, and other commercial conditions.
• Issue and manage purchase orders from placement through delivery.
• Monitor pricing, supply and demand, production capacity, availability, lead times, freight conditions, and other market developments that may affect purchasing decisions.
• Evaluate domestic and international sourcing alternatives to improve availability, manage costs, and reduce exposure to supply disruptions.
• Coordinate purchasing activities with sales, logistics, operations, finance, suppliers, and other business partners.
• Confirm purchased materials meet required grades, dimensions, specifications, certifications, and quality requirements.
• Monitor supplier performance related to quality, delivery, responsiveness, documentation, and reliability.
• Work with suppliers and internal teams to resolve material discrepancies, rejected shipments, late deliveries, documentation issues, and claims.
• Support inventory planning to maintain appropriate product availability while managing inventory investment and turnover.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier information, cost data, and relevant market intelligence.
• Support gross-margin, inventory, product-availability, and customer-service objectives.

Required Background:

• Strong experience in purchasing, sourcing, procurement, commodity buying, or a related commercial buying function.
• Fluency in Portuguese or Spanish is required.
• Experience evaluating suppliers and negotiating material pricing and commercial terms.
• Ability to evaluate purchasing decisions based on cost, specifications, availability, lead times, supplier performance, and business requirements.
• Understanding of freight, logistics, inventory considerations, landed costs, and supply-chain risk.
• Strong analytical, organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple suppliers, purchases, orders, and delivery requirements in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with purchasing, ERP, or inventory-management systems.

Preferred Experience:

• Previous steel buying, purchasing, sourcing, or trading experience is strongly preferred. Candidates with strong purchasing or sourcing backgrounds outside the steel industry will also be considered.
• Candidates with experience in international steel or metals trading, steel mills, service centers, distributors, processors, or related metals organizations are particularly relevant.
• Knowledge of flat-rolled steel products, steel coils and slabs, hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel, galvanized, galvannealed, Galvalume, pre-painted steel, and tinplate is valuable.

Additional relevant experience may include:

• Established relationships with domestic and/or international steel or industrial suppliers.
• International purchasing, sourcing, or import activity.
• Understanding of tariffs, duties, customs requirements, and import documentation.
• Experience evaluating ocean or domestic freight and total landed costs.
• Inventory planning and management within a trading, distribution, manufacturing, or other commercial purchasing environment.
• A bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, finance, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent purchasing and sourcing experience will be considered.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Base Salary: $85,000–$90,000
• Annual Incentive: Approximately 20%–25%, based on individual and company performance
