Maintenance Manager – Foundry Operations

Davalyn Corporation has been retained to identify an experienced Maintenance Manager for a well-established metal casting manufacturer.
This position offers an experienced maintenance leader the opportunity to direct a sizable maintenance function within an equipment-intensive foundry environment. The focus will be on building a strong maintenance organization, improving machinery performance and availability, reducing production interruptions, and supporting the long-term reliability of plant assets.
Candidates should bring significant foundry and metal casting maintenance experience, hands-on knowledge of electric melting furnaces and industrial hydraulic systems, and demonstrated success leading maintenance teams in heavy manufacturing.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide overall leadership for the maintenance function supporting foundry, metal casting, melting, molding, and related manufacturing processes.
- Lead and develop a multi-craft maintenance organization encompassing mechanical, electrical, controls, and skilled-trades capabilities.
- Improve equipment uptime and reliability by strengthening planned maintenance and identifying potential equipment problems before they interrupt production.
- Provide maintenance leadership for melting and casting equipment, hydraulic systems, material handling equipment, electrical and mechanical systems, controls, and automated production machinery.
- Establish disciplined maintenance planning, scheduling, work-order, and equipment-history practices.
- Guide complex equipment troubleshooting and failure investigations, ensuring recurring problems are identified and effectively addressed.
- Use maintenance data and operating trends to prioritize improvements, allocate resources, and increase equipment availability.
- Plan maintenance resources around major equipment repairs, plant outages, machinery upgrades, new equipment, and facility improvement initiatives.
- Improve critical spare-parts planning and inventory practices to support production requirements.
- Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Safety leadership on equipment performance and manufacturing improvement initiatives.
- Advance TPM, Lean manufacturing, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, condition-based maintenance, and equipment reliability practices throughout the operation.
- Reinforce safe maintenance practices and compliance with applicable industrial safety requirements.
Required Background:
- Significant foundry / metal casting maintenance experience is required.
- Candidates may have worked with iron, steel, aluminum, ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, bronze, or other cast metal manufacturing operations.
- Hands-on experience with electric melting furnaces, furnace maintenance, and foundry melting operations is required.
- Strong practical knowledge of industrial hydraulics and hydraulic equipment is required.
- Progressive leadership experience directing maintenance teams in an equipment-intensive manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading and developing multi-craft maintenance personnel across mechanical, electrical, controls, and related technical disciplines.
- Strong understanding of foundry equipment, casting processes, melting operations, molding systems, material handling, and industrial production machinery.
- Demonstrated success improving equipment reliability, preventive maintenance performance, predictive maintenance practices, troubleshooting effectiveness, and plant uptime.
- Technical knowledge spanning hydraulics, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, pneumatics, PLCs, industrial controls, robotics, and manufacturing automation.
- Experience utilizing a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to support maintenance planning, scheduling, work orders, equipment history, and performance analysis.
- Experience with capital equipment, plant improvement projects, maintenance expenditures, outside contractors, and equipment upgrades.
- Familiarity with equipment condition and predictive maintenance technologies is beneficial.
- A stable work history with demonstrated success building, developing, and retaining effective maintenance teams.
Relevant Manufacturing Backgrounds:
We are particularly interested in maintenance leaders who have built their careers around foundries and metal casting operations, including experience involving:
- Iron and ductile iron
- Ferrous metals
- Non-ferrous metals
- Steel and specialty metals
- Aluminum casting
- Bronze and other cast alloys
- Sand casting and related casting processes
- Heavy industrial metal manufacturing involving electric furnaces, melting systems, hydraulics, controls, automation, and complex production equipment
Direct foundry experience is an important requirement for this search. Candidates coming from broader metals or heavy manufacturing environments should also have meaningful exposure to foundry, melting, or metal casting operations.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base Salary: $120,000–$170,000
- Bonus eligible
