Lean Manufacturing

Process Engineer

RS-13177-DAV-3

Youngstown, OH

A well-established global manufacturer of engineered materials for the steel, foundry, and aluminum industries is adding a Process Engineer to its manufacturing plant. This is a plant-floor-facing role, highly visible to plant leadership, with a direct reporting line to the Plant Manager and real collaboration with corporate engineering and Lean teams.

The company is in active transition — investing in next-generation manufacturing processes, plant automation, MES deployment, and advanced process controls. This is an early-career opportunity with strong promotion potential for someone who wants to grow as the operation grows. The right candidate will be hands-on, data-driven, and comfortable on a production floor that works with metals, high-temperature processing equipment, and increasingly automated industrial operations.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Evaluate and improve manufacturing processes across safety, quality, productivity, and cost metrics
  • Lead and support Lean initiatives and waste reduction projects using 5S, SMED, Six Sigma, and related methodologies
  • Design, test, and validate process changes including layout optimization and product flow improvements
  • Develop and maintain standardized work instructions, PFMEAs, and process documentation
  • Coordinate capital expenditure (CapEx) projects from requisition through installation and validation
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including process routing and BOM validation
  • Analyze customer complaints and internal rejections, implementing corrective and preventive actions
  • Work cross-functionally with Production, Quality, EHS, Engineering, and Purchasing
  • Participate in equipment programming and cycle development for automated systems, isostatic press operations, thermal processing equipment, and related production machinery
  • Contribute to MES system conversion efforts, focusing on reducing manual process activity
  • Develop KPIs and draft process improvement proposals with supporting data

PREFERRED BACKGROUND:

Engineering degree (mechanical, industrial, materials, or related discipline) is preferred. We will consider recent graduates and early-career engineers with the right combination of drive, documentation discipline, and manufacturing instincts. Strong candidates may come from factory automation, metals processing, foundry, ceramics, industrial equipment manufacturing, or any production environment where process control and structured documentation are part of daily work.

  • Background in manufacturing — factory automation, metals processing, foundry, ceramics, refractory materials, high-temperature industrial production, industrial equipment manufacturing, or related environments
  • Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles; formal Lean or Six Sigma training is a plus
  • Exposure to process documentation — work instructions, PFMEAs, control plans, BOM management
  • Exposure to factory automation, PLC-based controls, automated production systems, or industrial robotics is a strong advantage — the facility is actively expanding its automation footprint
  • Comfort with problem-solving tools: 8D, 5 Why, root cause analysis, and structured CAPA processes
  • Proficiency with measurement tools (calipers, micrometers) and technical drawing interpretation
  • Experience with Minitab, AutoCAD, or similar engineering/process analysis software is helpful
  • MES system experience is considered a significant plus
  • Strong written documentation skills are essential — this role produces records that travel across the plant and organization

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Base salary: $90,000–$100,000, commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Strong probability of promotion for high performers as the operation scales
  • Opportunity to grow alongside a global company actively investing in plant modernization

  • Max. file size: 100 MB.
