General Manager – Steel Manufacturing Operations

A growing steel manufacturing and distribution operation is seeking a General Manager to oversee daily operations, production performance, financial accountability, and continuous improvement initiatives across multiple facilities.
This role is ideal for an experienced manufacturing leader with a strong background in steel, metals, metal processing, steel tubing, tube manufacturing, steel service centers, or related industrial manufacturing environments. Candidates with experience as a Plant Manager, Operations Manager, Steel Mill Manager, Manufacturing Manager, or General Manager within the steel or metals industry are encouraged to apply.
The General Manager will be responsible for leading manufacturing operations, warehouse/distribution activities, production planning, cost control, inventory management, staffing coordination, operational reporting, and overall business performance. This position requires a hands-on operational leader with strong business and financial acumen who can effectively manage fast-paced steel manufacturing and metals processing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all aspects of steel manufacturing, production, warehouse, and distribution operations.
- Oversee plant operations, production scheduling, inventory management, logistics, shipping, and operational workflow.
- Maintain operational and financial accountability, including budgeting, cost control, operational reporting, and performance analysis.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, throughput, labor utilization, inventory accuracy, quality, and on-time delivery.
- Monitor and control production costs, labor costs, overtime, freight expenses, scrap, and operational waste.
- Prepare and review operational, inventory, production, and financial reports on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Supervise production teams, department managers, supervisors, and operational personnel.
- Hold teams accountable for operational performance, execution, safety, and productivity goals.
- Coordinate with HR regarding staffing, workforce planning, employee development, and performance management.
- Develop, implement, and enforce SOPs, operational procedures, and reporting systems.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement corrective actions and process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and all OSHA, safety, labor, transportation, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and service providers regarding materials, pricing, procurement, and operational support.
- Monitor KPIs related to manufacturing operations, steel production, inventory, labor efficiency, and customer service performance.
- Collaborate with ownership and senior leadership on operational planning, reporting, and business improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Proven leadership experience within steel manufacturing, steel processing, metals manufacturing, metal fabrication, steel tubing, tube manufacturing, roll forming, coil processing, or related industrial manufacturing environments.
- Steel industry experience is required; steel tubing, tube mill, or tube manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
- Multi-site manufacturing, steel processing, or distribution operations leadership experience is highly desired.
- Demonstrated experience managing manufacturing operations with financial and operational accountability.
- Strong business and financial acumen, including budgeting, reporting, inventory management, production analysis, and cost control.
- Documented experience leading manufacturing teams, plant operations, warehouse operations, or multi-department industrial operations.
- Hands-on leadership style with the ability to work closely with production, maintenance, warehouse, and operational teams.
- Experience driving operational improvements, manufacturing efficiency, and process optimization initiatives.
- Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced steel, metals, or industrial manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but equivalent manufacturing and operations experience will be considered.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base salary range: $110,000 – $150,000
