RS-13141-DAV

Hartford, CT

Our client is seeking a highly skilled CNC Machinist or CNC Programmer with strong aerospace machining experience to support advanced metalcutting applications in high-precision manufacturing environments. This role is ideal for a hands-on machining professional who has deep experience with aerospace components, tight tolerances, and complex CNC machining processes, and who is interested in expanding their technical impact beyond the machine.

This position focuses on applying machining expertise to support cutting tool performance, process optimization, and continuous improvement across aerospace manufacturing operations.

Role Overview:

The CNC Machinist / CNC Programmer will leverage extensive shop-floor experience to support high-precision aerospace machining applications. The role involves working closely with cutting tool technology, CNC programming strategies, and advanced machining methods to improve productivity, tool life, surface finish, and overall process stability.

This is a technical role well-suited for machinists or programmers who are known for dialing in difficult jobs, optimizing toolpaths, and machining challenging aerospace materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support machining of aerospace components using advanced CNC milling, turning, and holemaking processes, including multi-axis and 5-axis machining.
  • Apply strong knowledge of cutting tool selection, including indexable tooling, solid carbide end mills and drills, threading tools, and toolholding systems.
  • Optimize machining processes through proper feeds and speeds, toolpath strategies, insert grades, coatings, and chip control methods.
  • Work with difficult-to-machine aerospace materials such as titanium alloys, nickel-based superalloys (Inconel), stainless steels, and high-strength aluminum alloys.
  • Program, modify, and optimize CNC programs to improve cycle time, surface finish, dimensional accuracy, and tool life.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, aerospace part prints, GD&T, tolerances, and surface finish requirements.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues related to vibration, tool wear, heat generation, and process instability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, tooling evaluations, and machining best-practice development.

Background & Experience:

  • Proven experience as a CNC Machinist, CNC Programmer, or Technical Machine Operator in aerospace manufacturing.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of high-precision machining and tight-tolerance aerospace components.
  • Experience with 5-axis CNC machining, complex toolpaths, and advanced milling strategies preferred.
  • Deep understanding of metalcutting principles, tooling performance, and machining optimization.
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality standards, inspection processes, and documentation is a plus.
  • Comfortable working in technically demanding environments and collaborating with engineers, programmers, and manufacturing teams.

What the Client Offers:

  • Base salary of $80,000 – $125,000 plus bonus
  • Opportunity to apply machining expertise to advanced cutting tool and aerospace applications
  • Exposure to high-level aerospace manufacturing environments and technologies
  • A role that values hands-on machining knowledge and rewards technical problem-solving
