The organization is seeking an experienced Sales Manager to lead its commercial team, drive profitable revenue growth, strengthen customer relationships, and expand market share. This leadership role will be responsible for overseeing both outside and inside sales personnel while developing and executing strategies that support the company’s long-term growth objectives.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record selling steel products and managing customer relationships within the steel industry. Candidates should possess a strong understanding of steel manufacturing, steel distribution, fabrication markets, and industrial sales channels, along with experience leading sales teams and driving commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team consisting of field sales representatives and inside sales personnel.
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans focused on revenue growth, profitability, customer retention, and market expansion.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with steel distributors, service centers, fabricators, manufacturers, contractors, OEMs, and industrial customers.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within existing and emerging markets.
- Manage key customer accounts while expanding the company’s customer base and market presence.
- Collaborate with operations, production, customer service, and executive leadership to ensure alignment between customer requirements and business objectives.
- Analyze market conditions, competitive activity, pricing trends, and customer demand to identify opportunities for growth.
- Conduct customer visits, sales presentations, business reviews, and contract negotiations.
- Develop pricing and commercial strategies that support both sales volume and profitability goals.
- Maintain accurate sales forecasts, pipeline activity, account plans, and performance metrics.
- Drive accountability throughout the sales organization while fostering a culture focused on customer service, responsiveness, and results.
- Participate in strategic planning initiatives and contribute to the overall commercial direction of the business.
Required Qualifications
- Proven sales experience within the steel industry.
- Demonstrated success selling steel products and growing customer relationships within steel manufacturing, steel distribution, steel processing, metal service centers, or related steel markets.
- Experience selling directly to fabricators, manufacturers, OEMs, contractors, distributors, service centers, and industrial end users.
- Track record of achieving revenue growth, margin improvement, and market share expansion.
- Previous experience managing and developing both outside and inside sales personnel preferred.
- Strong understanding of steel supply chains, distribution channels, pricing dynamics, and customer buying processes.
- Experience with account management, business development, territory management, strategic sales planning, and contract negotiations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with CRM systems, sales forecasting, pipeline management, and performance reporting.
- Ability to travel as required to support customers and business growth initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within steel manufacturing, steel processing, steel distribution, metal service centers, or fabricated steel product environments.
- Strong network and established relationships within steel, fabrication, manufacturing, and industrial markets.
- Experience managing sales organizations responsible for both direct and channel sales.
- Knowledge of steel market trends, customer applications, supply chain management, and commercial sales strategies.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary of $80,000–$100,000.
- Target total compensation of $130,000–$150,000+.
- Performance-based incentive plan tied equally to profitability and sales growth.
