Cutting Tool Sales Engineer

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Cutting Tool Sales Engineer to join our client’s team. This role is ideal for a technical sales professional with a deep understanding of metal cutting applications and metalworking processes, and a proven track record selling carbide inserts, diamond tooling, end mills, and other precision cutting tools used in CNC machining environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow a defined sales territory by promoting a full range of cutting tool solutions including carbide tools, diamond tools, indexable inserts, reamers, coolant-fed drills, and high-performance end mills.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within machine shops, OEMs, and contract manufacturers in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, medical device manufacturing, and precision machining.
  • Conduct technical assessments at customer facilities, offering recommendations that improve machining efficiency, tool life, chip control, material removal rate (MRR), and surface finish quality.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and purchasing departments to deliver tooling packages that support cost reduction and productivity improvements.
  • Utilize strong knowledge of CNC turning, milling, grinding, and drilling operations to advise on the optimal application of carbide tooling and diamond tooling.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, competitive products, and emerging technologies in the metalworking and metal cutting tool markets.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial sales experience focused on cutting tools, particularly carbide cutting tools or diamond cutting tools.
  • Technical understanding of machining processes, tool path strategies, and how various cutting tool geometries affect performance in materials such as steel, aluminum, titanium, and composites.
  • Comfortable working in and around CNC machine tools, including lathes, vertical and horizontal machining centers, and multi-axis machines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a consultative approach to technical sales.
  • Ability to travel within the territory and represent the company at trade shows, industry events, and customer demos.

Compensation/Benefits:

  • Base Salary $70,000–$80,000 + Commission
  • Comprehensive health benefits package (medical, dental, vision).
  • Mileage reimbursement for use of personal vehicle (depending on territory).
