Our client, a leading CNC machine tool builder, is seeking an experienced Applications Engineer to support the development, installation, and optimization of 5-axis milling machines used in high-precision industries such as aerospace, medical device manufacturing, and advanced machining.
This role is ideal for someone with hands-on CNC machining experience who understands the nuances of metal cutting, toolpath strategies, and high-speed machining, and who enjoys working directly with customers on process improvements and turnkey solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to customers throughout the sales and post-sales process, including machine setup, programming, and troubleshooting of 5-axis CNC machining centers.
- Develop optimized machining processes including part fixturing, tooling selection, feeds and speeds, and G-code programming using control platforms such as Fanuc, Siemens, or Heidenhain.
- Perform time studies, process capability analysis, and cycle time optimization to demonstrate machine capabilities and ensure customer success.
- Create and deliver documentation such as process sheets, setup instructions, and maintenance guidelines.
- Conduct customer training sessions on machine operation, programming, and CAM software use (e.g., Mastercam, NX, Fusion 360).
- Collaborate with engineering, service, and sales teams to support customer applications across industries focused on precision manufacturing and multi-axis machining.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in CNC applications engineering, process development, or advanced machining, with specific expertise in 5-axis milling.
- Proficiency in CAM programming, G-code, and operation of CNC machinery.
- Solid understanding of metal cutting theory, including cutting forces, surface finish, and tool wear in both roughing and finishing operations.
- Experience with machining materials common in aerospace and medical device industries, such as titanium, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a customer-first attitude.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field preferred.
