Our client is a multi-site U.S. manufacturer delivering high-precision components for the aerospace, defense, medical device, and industrial sectors. Their capabilities span CNC machining, metal fabrication, job shop production, and machine tool operations, with a focus on delivering tight-tolerance parts in complex, low-volume applications. Their network of facilities includes shops with multi-axis machining, EDM, and lights-out automation.

Position Overview

We are hiring an experienced and strategic Director of Operations to lead operational performance across several machine and fabrication shops. Reporting directly to executive leadership, this role is responsible for driving profitability, efficiency, and process optimization across assigned facilities.

The ideal candidate will bring deep operational expertise in CNC and precision machining environments, a strong understanding of manufacturing metrics, and a proven ability to lead complex technical teams across geographically dispersed locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and improve operational performance across multiple CNC machining and fabrication shops
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including automation, process flow optimization, and throughput
  • Analyze and enhance operational metrics (EBITDA, yield, utilization, labor cost)
  • Collaborate on capital investment strategy, equipment planning, and technology upgrades
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to General Managers and Production Managers
  • Serve as a key contributor to cross-functional business strategy alongside finance, sales, and quality
  • Identify and implement best practices across production sites
  • Lead operational due diligence and integration support for potential acquisitions
  • Travel to operating sites (20–40%) as needed

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in precision machining, fabrication, or machine tool manufacturing
  • Experience overseeing multiple facilities or managing complex operational environments
  • Strong knowledge of job shop ERP systems, CAM programming, quoting, and scheduling
  • Proven success in cost reduction, process improvement, and team development
  • Strong understanding of low-volume/high-mix production workflows
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or similar field preferred

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $175,000 – $225,000
  • Bonus: Based on performance metrics
