Our client, a leading distributor of steel and metal products, is seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Sales Representative to join their team. This role offers the opportunity to become a crucial part of the company’s expansion efforts in the thriving markets of New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County.

As a Sales Representative, your primary purpose will be to establish and maintain point-of-sale customer relationships, generate new accounts, and maximize sales productivity. You will play a key role in achieving profitability and delivering exceptional service to the company’s valued clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and expand sales opportunities through direct sales calls and collaboration with Inside Sales staff, Sales Manager, and the Management Team.
  • Develop and secure new accounts through strategic cold calling, pre-qualified leads, and referrals from existing customers.
  • Build and diversify the customer base through proactive new account acquisition.
  • Cultivate a deep understanding of each customer’s business, including material usage and alternative sources for products. Gather data on buying cycles, product history, and cross-selling potential.
  • Stay informed about pricing trends, product opportunities, and regional competition. Actively seek cross-selling opportunities during each sales interaction.
  • Collaborate with the Inside Sales team to resolve order, delivery, and service issues promptly.
  • Work closely with Inside Sales to monitor and follow up on quotation requests, ensuring timely responses to customers and prospects.
  • Keep management updated on customer calling schedules, prospect outreach plans, and lead development.
  • Collect competitive data on rival companies within the assigned territory and provide daily reports to Managers and Inside Sales staff.
  • Analyze monthly sales reports to guide targeted sales calls and identify cross-selling possibilities, optimizing account penetration in the designated territory.

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of sales experience, in the steel, aluminum, copper or metal supply industry.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and results-driven with a proven track record of meeting sales targets.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to be on the road, visiting customers and prospects.
  • Integrity, competence, trustworthiness, accountability, and commitment to excellence in customer service.
